  World's longest High Speed Train Route Opens in China

  two days ago (december 22, 2012) a high speed train with a media contingent left beijing west rail station bound for guangzhou, 2298km away.

  this is the latest section of china's high speed rail netweek and the longest high speed rail route in the world, with trains travelling at an average of 300 km/hour.

  the trolley is alright as long as you aren't strapped for time and coming from east county.the san ysidro line always seemed more convenient to me. maybe it's the distance to downtown and the time it takes to be able to switch lines?

  or god forbid, have to switch from blue to yellow or green.

  then again, once i got a car i quickly abandoned sd public transportation :P

  I'm a bit disturbed about all of the suggestions about having kids be at a certain GPA to be able to have/use guns.

  didn't say they have to have a certain gpa to use guns.

  what i said was, in order for them to qualify for certain activities on the school shooting team...they would have to meet certain gpa requirements. this is the case for all athletics, where students have to have a certain gpa to be eligible for athletics, so why would you strip that requirement for the school shooting team?

  gun safety is not a moot point. teaching gun safety is a part of changing some of the uglier perceptions about guns. that would be part of a broad program tto prevent gun violence in general, not incidents where someone snaps and decides to massacre people. there's not going to be one single rule that solves this problem.

  massacres aren't the only aspect of gun violence. hate to break it to some people but there's also robberies and inner city gang violence to consider. is that fair? no, but now you know how minorities feel when they get profiled. if kids in the inner city grow up only thinking of guns as a means of violence, then that's all they will ever be used and treated as.

  annie oakley wasn't famous for her quality knitting. change the public perception of how they are used and what they are for.

  i do like the idea of the lights and sounds, i just think there has to be testing to make sure it doesn't damage the kids hearing. they have better hearing and eyesight right? the idea isn't much different than a flashbang, just want it to be at the apropriate level i guess.

  also, the reservations i'd have as far as tear gas is the effect on kids breathing that in. otherwise, the lights and sound stuff seems like a good idea, but i'd hate to damage any kid's hearing or sight.

  i agreed with everything you said minus the concealed carry.

  i'd alos like to toss in a couple ideas.

  the nra has this safety program called "eddie the eagle", where they go around to schools and teach gun safety to kids. not like cleaning weapons, but stuff like, "don't touch the guns without mommy or daddy around." i think expanding that program WITH the nra would be a great thing to do.

  i think we do need to change our gun culture. so many people only think of guns as weapons, but there are many people who use them for sport like hunting and competitions, or to simply put food on the table. a few states have some high school shooting competitions. this, i think should also be expanded. here's another area that i believe the nra can be instrumental in. right now, kids have to maintain a 2.0 gpa for athletic eligibility. why not bump that to:

  2.0 gpa to qualify to be on the team, attend safety/teaching sessions and to assist with the supervised cleaning and maintenance of the guns as well as restricted supervised practice (like half the allotted bullets or something).

  2.5 gpa to do everything the 2.0 gpa students get to do, but unrestricted (full allottment or something) supervised practice.

  3.0 gpa to do what the 2.5 gpa students get to do while also qualifying to compete.

  there are many kids who grow up around guns and learn to properly respect them. they're not taught that guns are only for killing other people and many go on to own quite a few guns with no issues at all. i think the shooting teams with certified coaches/police officers/military personnel would help reach out to kids with interest, but no responsible way to get involved.

  there is an academic paper out there advocating lengthening the eligibility time for people with misdemeanors because of the plea bargain. this doesn't have to be a permanent ban, but how about 5-10 years after release or something?

  we register our cars every year. this shoud be mandatory for guns. every year you register them with the local police department while having to pass yearly background/mental health checks. how about even having the police dept fire a sample bullet for tracing purposes?

  couple that with mandatory insurance or a large bond. we have that for cars, why not for guns?

  the mental health and counseling really need more investment. we're shutting these places down when we ought to be researching more effective treatments, etc. anyone who has ever had therapy could probably cosign on how difficult getting a GOOD therapist can be.

  i also think we should start buying back guns. not quite at market rate, but places like oakland have programs where you turn it in and get some cash no questions asked.

  i gave up smoking a few months back and have put on around 20lbs already.

  i've gone up another dress size and i wasn't slim to begin with!

  let's not get into an argument over if jesus was historical or not.. i'd just like to know how you think the jesus of the 4 gospels would act and do things in our modern world.

  anyone and everyone. i always thought it was cool he ate with what was considered the cast offs of society.

  purple irises to purple haze. marijuana is so much better than alcohol without the awful vomitting when you've had too much.

  i'd like to think he'd start fixing some 3rd world countries that could use some help.

  every major religion out there. catholic bank money laundering, cults swindling believers, suicide bombers...i'd like to think he'd burn down westboro baptist and make an example out of terry whatshisface

  people who take a stand for what's right. thinking of girls in pakistan who have to worry about having acid thrown in their face on the way to school, or doctors who risk everything to help ebola patients in the middle of the jungle.
